With higher rates of malnutrition at the time of lung transplantation compared to adult patients, the effect of body mass index (BMI) on transplant outcome in pediatric patients is unknown. Using the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation Registry on Pediatric Lung Transplantation, this retrospective study classified pediatric lung recipients according to BMI and compared survival between categories. Cystic fibrosis patients had higher rates of malnutrition with 44% being underweight compared to non-CF patients. Low BMI had no significant impact on survival post lung transplantation.
