Evaluation for cardiac ischemia is frequently part of the pre-transplant evaluation for renal transplant candidates, and frequently leads to angioplasty or bypass surgery. However, given the possibility of a long time period between cardiac evaluation and eventual transplant, it is unclear whether this reduces the risk of transplant surgery. In this single-centre study, patients who underwent revascularization, whether or not they were subsequently transplanted, had superior survival to those who declined revascularization.
