A previous randomized controlled trial showed that machine perfusion was associated with a lower rate of delayed graft function and improved graft survival one year post-transplant. This trial was limited to donation after cardiac death donors. In contrast to the earlier study, there was no difference in DGF, renal function, patient of graft survival rates between the two methods of preservation.
