Effect of Kidney Transplantation on Outcomes among Patients with Hepatitis C

.   .

Patients with hepatitis C need to be carefully evaluated before renal transplantation, due to concerns that they liver disease may progress more rapidly after transplant and lead to liver failure. In this single-center study of hepatitis C-infected patients, liver biopsy data both before transplant, on the wait list and after transplant were available. Kidney transplantation did not appear to cause more rapid progression of liver histology, and patient survival with transplantation was superior to remaining on the waiting list.
