Enteric Oxalate Nephropathy in the Renal Allograft: An Underrecognized Complication of Bariatric Surgery

Bariatric surgery is an established treatment for obesity, but one recognized complication is hyperoxaluria due to the shortened small intestine. This article presents two cases of patients with a past history of bypass surgery who developed allograft dysfunction due to oxalate deposition in the graft. Early recognition, including monitoring of oxalate levels, may prevent graft loss.
