Factors associated with chronic hepatitis in patients with hepatitis e virus infection who have received solid organ transplants.
Hepatitis E is thought to be a self-limiting illness. However, in the past two years, there are increasing reports of chronic hepatitis with this virus. In this multicenter review of Hepatitis E, compared to patients who resolved infection, those who progressed to chronic hepatitis tended to have lower platelet counts and were on tacrolimus (as compared to cyclosporin in the group with resolved infection). Clearance of Hepatitis E virus could be achieved in approximately one-third of patients after reduction of immunosuppression.
