The limited number of donor organs demands careful donor/recipient matching in heart transplantation. Using the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation (ISHLT) Registry, this publication explored the associations between donor and recipient sex in overall survival, death-censored allograft survival, AR, and CAV. The ISHLT Registry is the largest repository of heart transplant outcomes worldwide. The authors found a strong association between donor/recipient sex mismatch and reduced survival after heart transplantation.
