This article identified 93 British Columbia (Canada) residents who received a kidney graft through transplant tourism.  Most of the tourists belonged to ethnic minority groups and received their transplant in their country of origin.  Many of the patients received a kidney transplant pre-emptively and/or had limited contact with the local transplant centre.  This data suggests that discussions deterring transplant tourism need to happen early on in the course of the kidney disease, not just at the time of local centre transplant evaluation.
