As the number of short term survivors of pediatric intestine transplantation increases, a better understanding of the unique aspects of health related quality of life (HRQOL) after intestine transplantation can improve the care of the patient and his family. This single center, prospective analysis of HRQOL of pediatric intestine transplant recipients and their parents compared to healthy controls is an important addition to the field. The authors have used 2 validated tools in their assessment – the child health questionnaire (CHQ) and the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory version 4.0 (PedsQL4.0). Parental responses were lower in multiple categories compared to normal controls. Patient responses were similar to controls with the CHQ instrument but lower in school functioning and psychosocial health scores using the PedsQL4.0.
