Immunization recommendations advise against immunizing too early before influenza seasons starts for concern of waning vaccine-specific antibody before the end of the season.  This 5-year study of influenza antibodies in lung transplant recipients measured the influenza antibody concentrations before annual immunizations in transplant recipients and healthy controls, finding that seroprotective influenza antibody concentrations are maintained at very high rates in lung transplant recipients.  Delaying vaccination is therefore not required and may be inappropriate in this immunosuppressed population.
