This observational study supports the CCS recommendations of ICD consideration in transplant eligible patients. In this study, ICDs appear to be associated with a reduction in all-cause mortality in both primary and secondary prevention compared to those without an ICD despite a median time on the waiting list of only 8 months (estimated 1-year: 88±3% vs 77±3% vs 67±3%; p=0.0001). Patients without an ICD were more likely to die on the list as compared to the CRT-D and ICD groups. Benefits were evident with implantation both before and after listing for transplant.
