Reduced survival and quality of life following return to dialysis after transplant failure: the Dialysis Outcomes and Practice Patterns Study

The transition from a functioning renal transplant to dialysis has been recognized as a high-risk period. In this study using data from the multinational DOPPS study, patients with a failed renal transplant had worse outcomes than wait-listed dialysis patients. A major cause of death among patients with a failed graft was infection.
