Risk factors for survival in patients with end-stage heart failure (HF) requiring left ventricular assist device (LVAD) support have been previously described. Similar analyses for patients with biventricular HF are lacking. In this single center, retrospective study, the authors evaluated a consecutive cohort of 113 adult, end-stage biventricular HF patients who required BIVAD support as a bridge to cardiac transplantation. The authors utilized univariate analyses to identify factors associated with increased risk of death and then generated a scoring system for survival to transplant. This initial scoring system may prove useful in risk stratifying patients requiring BIVAD support as a bridge to cardiac transplantation.
