Biliary complications are a major cause of morbidity after liver transplant, especially in donation after cardiac death grafts. In this overview, the authors describe the pathogenesis of non-anastomotic biliary strictures, including ischemic injury and bile salt toxicity. They also analyze the risk factors and give expert opinion on potential targets to reduce biliary injury.
